Gut Health
“All disease begins in the gut” is a fundamental principle of naturopathic medicine, said by Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine. I believe that the gut is the root of all disease. Our microbiome is the centre of health, within our microbiome resides countless microorganisms orchestrating the balance of our physiological functions, including the regulation of digestion and the synthesis of our hormones. It is within this intricate ecosystem that the foundation of our health is established. The gut plays a huge role in absorbing nutrients from the food we eat which are transported into the bloodstream and used by the body to ensure optimal immune function and detoxification of waste products.
Further Information
As a naturopath I have the expertise to address a wide array of gastrointestinal conditions and symptoms. This includes digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), as well as gastritis and dyspepsia. Investigating and managing food sensitivity and allergies, which can significantly impact digestive health.
Through functional testing and complete microbiome mapping I focus on addressing gut dysbiosis, such as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and supporting the healing of the gut microbiome, reducing systemic inflammation and improving the gut diversity. Candida overgrowth, a common fungal infection affecting the gut, is also within my scope of treatment. I provide nutritional guidance to optimise gut health, incorporating probiotic-rich foods and reducing inflammatory dietary components. I emphasise stress management techniques to mitigate the impact of stress on gut function, promoting overall wellbeing.
